    About EN 10217-1

    • Complete Grade Breakdown
    1. P: Core Application Identifier
      Abbreviation for Pressure, indicating that this steel grade is intended for pressure-bearing use, specifically for manufacturing welded steel pipes that withstand internal/external pressure.
    2. 195: Key Mechanical Property Identifier
      Represents the minimum specified yield strength of this steel grade, which is 195 MPa (for longitudinal specimens when thickness ≤16mm). This is the core indicator for steel grade strength classification; the higher the number, the higher the yield strength (e.g., P235 has 235 MPa, P265 has 265 MPa).
    3. TR: Product Type and Manufacturing Process Identifier
      Abbreviation for Tube Welded, the exclusive suffix for EN 10217 series welded pressure steel pipes, directly distinguishing it from seamless pressure steel pipes (EN 10216 series does not have this suffix). It also implies compatibility with both high-frequency welding (ERW) and submerged arc welding (SAW) processes.

    • Manufacturing process: ERW/SAW, welds must undergo 100% UT inspection, TR2 can perform RT spot checks according to PED requirements.
    • Applicability: Only for circular cross-section, room temperature (-20°C to 300°C) pressure pipe.
    • Compliance: TR2 meets the essential safety requirements of PED 2014/68/EU and can be delivered with CE marking.
    • TR1 for qualities without specified aluminium content and specified impact properties and with non-specific inspection requirements; TR2 for qualities with specified aluminium content, specified impact properties, and either non-specific or specific inspection requirements.

    a. Elements not quoted in this table shall not be intentionally added to the steel without the agreement of the purchaser, except for elements which may be added for finishing the cast. All appropriate measures shall be taken to prevent the addition of undesirable elements from scrap or other materials used in the steelmaking process, which would have a negative impact on the mechanical properties, ageing and the suitability of the material;
    b: For qualities TR1 and TR2 supplied with non-specific inspection, the content of these elements need not be reported unless intentionally added to the cast;
    c: Option 3: In order to facilitate subsequent forming operations, an agreed maximum copper content lower than indicated and an agreed specified maximum tin content shall apply. In such cases, a 3.1 Test Certificate shall be supplied for steel quality TR2 (see Option 9);
    d: For Al/N ratios ≥ 2, if nitrogen is fixed by niobium, titanium or vanadium, details of which shall be reported, this requirement does not apply except that when using titanium, the steel producer shall verify that (Al+Ti/2) ≥ 0.020 %.

    Product Applicant And Tolerance

    Applicant Field:

    • P195TR1/TR2:Low-pressure water/gas transport, general industrial non-critical pipelines, small container connections.TR1 is used for non-impact conditions; TR2 is used for low-pressure systems with mild impacts.

    • P235TR1/TR2:Municipal gas/heating pipelines, medium- and low-pressure chemical pipelines, ambient pressure vessel shells.TR2 is primarily used in situations requiring welding and cold working (such as bending pipes and flaring).

    • P265TR1/TR2: Medium-pressure fluid transport, auxiliary piping for industrial boilers, pressure-bearing pipes for mechanical structures.TR2 is suitable for conditions that require both strength and toughness, and it has good weldability.
